About Busuanga Bay Lodge
Busuanga Bay Lodge is an elegant, boutique hotel located on the resort island of Palawan, a nature sanctuary known all over the world as the Philippine’s last ecological frontier.
Palawan is made up of pristine white beaches, dramatic rock formations, secret coves, rain forests, outstanding dive sites, caves and majestic mountains. It bursts with exotic flora and fauna, and is surrounded by a coral shelf that is alive with varied and colorful marine life.
Busuanga Bay Lodge offers 41 units in total including 38 rooms and 3 private, two-bedroom villas. It is the ultimate destination for a tropical escape, and can be reached in just 45 minutes by air from key hubs such as Manila, Cebu and Boracay via Airjuan.
ENVIRONMENT & ECOSYSTEM
Embraces environmentally sustainable business practices and continues to seek new ways to proactively green our operations. The resort is located at the Philippines most diverse and picturesque locations, and the company was founded on an enduring connection to the land and communities where we do business. The resort is reliant on destination health to be profitable and is committed to preserving the places where our guests and colleagues work, live and play. The resort is aware of the business impacts associated with the environment and we are taking proactive steps to reduce our carbon output and help mitigate the effects of global warming through:
- Reducing our use of energy, water, and waste produced and consumed by our properties through formal programs
- Monitoring, recording, benchmarking and setting targets on our environmental performance
- Providing necessary training and resources/materials to stakeholders in order to meet our environmental objectives
- Incorporating our environmental commitments into key business decisions
BBL Hotels & Resorts’ Water Management Program is part of our Sustainability Partnership Program, through which our properties can monitor and strive to minimize the impact of their activities in relation to water usage.
The Water Management Program provides each BBL property with the necessary tools to monitor, measure, and report water consumption, reuse, quality and wastewater discharge.
The overall goals of the Program are to:
- Reduce total water consumption
- Reduce contaminants in wastewater
* The installation of low flow showerheads, low flush toilets and tap aerators are corporate room’s standards. Additionally, all properties participate in sheet and towel exchange programs to conserve water resources by reducing the frequency of laundering guest linens.

Sewage Treatment Plant
The resort also reduces consumption of water, which otherwise have to be produced through energy-intensive desalination processes or sourced in the region’s water sources.
Materials Recovery Facility
Solid wastes go through strict segregation before reaching the resort’s full cycle materials recovery facility (MRF). The MRF receives recyclable and organic wastes from the resorts and is looked after by the POMEC Department. After segregation, the recyclable waste is stored in holding bins for pick-up by a local junk shop dealer for recycling, while the organic waste is composted onsite and later packed for use in the resort gardens or organic “Tapeken” farm. Recognizing the negative impact of using non-recyclable wastes, BBL Resorts implemented a refillable drinking water system this year (2016) to try to eliminate the purchase of plastic bottled waters.

ENERGY & CO2
In order to continue to strengthen our environmental commitment and to address climate change, we are participating on Energy and Carbon Management Program, which provides BBL property with the necessary tools to monitor, measure, and report Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.
The program provides BBL’s property and colleagues with a framework to ensure information associated with GHG emitting activities can be tracked and monitored on a consistent and measurable basis. This information will be used to guide reporting against program progress, both at a global level, and at an individual property level.
SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD - GREEN CUISINE
BBL resort removed threatened fish species and other seasonal seafood from the restaurant menus and also aligned locally with reputable seafood watch organizations, ensuring guests be provided with a comprehensive selection of sustainable choices. BBL’s seafood purchases were made with the guidance and consultation of these well-respected groups and in consortium with local suppliers.
BBL is committed to ocean sustainability, which means working with reputable suppliers who purchase fish that are resilient to fishing pressure and harvested in ways that limit damage to marine or aquatic habitats.

Busuanga Bay Lodge is committed to environmental protection and sustainability. As part of this commitment we have a set of comprehensive performance based standards that streamline the work of our partners (developers, architects, engineers and operators) in delivering state of the art, sustainable and profitable branded operations.
By incorporating environmental considerations in our design and construction process, we strive to improve the quality of the hotel environment for colleagues, guests, and local communities. These considerations shall be implemented from the concept design of the project throughout the installation and opening of the actual project in both new developments and renovation projects. Our standards effectively address and proactively prepare our stakeholders for sustainable design, construction, and operation of our brands, providing a balance between the industries recognized practices and innovative emerging concepts.

In order to provide our guests with a luxury experience, we depend on a range of suppliers, both at the local and outside the community. As a result, we are focused on understanding the sustainability practices of these suppliers and working to improve and build on existing initiatives. We believe sustainable procurement not only focuses on the products, but also considers the sustainability of the overall operations of our suppliers.
